First Project - The Interactive Tin

Welcome to the Art250 Interactive Spaces J-term 09 class. This blog is the information hub for the class. It contains everything you need to successfully complete this course so it is important to keep an eye on the classes Facebook group and this blog.

Over the next 4 weeks we will be investigating both the word 'interactive' and the word 'spaces' to better understand their relationship to our current society and to each other. This class is not a 'Computer Class' but a course that crosses between disciplines considering the roll that space and interactivity play in all art mediums.

Final Project: Festival Animation
For this project you want to create a Festival quality animation. This means you should storyboard the idea and consider storyline. You should be aware of your symbols. Ask yourself, How does each shot relay your message or meaning? What kind of mood are you setting? Where are the lights? (this applies to Flash Animation too!) Is you story funny, dramatic, action packed? How do you set it up? How does it resolve? Does emotion play a roll?

the Flash Project Animation Details
Size 720 x 534
FPS 15 or 30

you can do anything for this animation, but i would like you to use at least 3 different scenes (3 different points of view) in your animation.

Things to keeping in mind to make your animations run smoothly:
- Motion Tweens require Symbols
- Shape Tweens require basic shapes
- frame by frame animations can use anything
- Motion Paths require Symbols

Setting up your document
* your document size should be 720x534
* your frame rate should be 15 fps

Importing into Flash
- File --> Import
----- can import JPEG, PNG, MOV, WAV, MP3, and others
----- will automatically import a series of images into Flash from a folder

Trace Bitmap
- how to turn a bitmap image into a vector graphic
- 'Optimize' your image

Makin' a symbol
- give it a name
- you can find it in the 'Library' in Flash
- use it over and over
- changing a symbol

4 styles of animation
- Frame by Frame
- Shape Tween
- Motion Tween
- Motion Path
* the secret 5th style, programmed animation

Exporting in Flash
- 'export movie as'

* the FLA is the working file. it is the most important file and should be saved for later use!

Storyboarding and Storyline
- introduction of characters (how many different ways can this be done?)
- setting (place the characters somewhere)
- conflict
- filler (what happens in between that ties it all together)
- resolution

Making a Storyboard
*Shrek Storyboards
- a storyboard is used to figure out the stories order, shot sequence and POV.

Finishing Up your Photohshop Animations
First Framed
- When you are done in Photoshop open up 'Framed' and drag and drop your folder with your animations still images in the window.
- Export your video at the size you created in Photoshop. (it tells you your images sizes in Framed)
- Don't forget to set your Frame Rate & give it a name.
- Click "make a movie" and preview your animation
- if you like it click "save" and save it to your desktop

Second iMovie
- Open iMovie
- Drag your video (.mov) into the clips area to import it into iMovie
- Drag your video clip onto the timeline
- Cut, Edit and add audio as needed
- Put in a 'Title' at the end of your video giving yourself credit
- Export your video by clicking "Share" in the tool bar
- Save your video as 'Full Quality' and in 'Expert Mode' as a 320x240, full frame rate, mpeg video, .mov

- Upload your 320x240 video to youtube
